Blended and Online Course Redesigns

Uncovering the transformative possibilities of blended and online learning strategies requires a thoughtful pedagogically-driven approach. Both are continually evolving as best practices emerge and technologies advance, and often MacPherson is asked to help in the redesign of a face-to-face course to a blended or online format. We take a collaborative approach by tapping into your teaching experience to give evidence-based guidance on how to leverage educational technologies, produce engaging digital media and best frame activities and strategies to craft a quality learning experience.

MacPherson’s educational technology team has been a catalyst on campus for technology enhanced learning experiences and can provide encouragement, support, and collaboration for McMaster’s teaching community. We are available to consult with educators on blended/online course redesign – including making evidence-based recommendations on course sequencing, outcomes/assessment alignment, integration of technologies, creation of digital learning objects, open educational resources, active online learning activities, online student engagement strategies and quality assurance. Course (re)Design Workshop

The Course (re)Design Workshop aims to engage and support academic staff in the design or redesign of a course. The Workshop includes facilitated sessions on course design topics, including constructive alignment, learning outcomes and assessment; the Workshop also includes dedicated time for individual work, peer feedback and consultation time. The structure of the Workshop encourages instructors to focus on a single course design, while developing skills applicable to course design more generally.

By the end of the Workshop, participants will have designed a constructively aligned, learning-centred and evidence-informed course appropriate to their local context. Workshop space is limited and participants are selected on a first-come basis. The workshop usually takes place each year in May. Registration opens in January.
